Goal #1
I have been in the K12 setting for about four years now I started as an upper grades support facilitator and then made the change last year to be an elementary self-contained classroom teacher I honestly cannot say which area I enjoy more. But I do enjoy working with the children, a goal that I have is to become an exceptional student education specialist. I would like to work more at the paperwork part of it. I want to be able to overseer the ESE department as a whole at my school.
The first step I have to take in making this goal happen is taking the specialist credential program. My school district does not offer this class so I would have to take it in Broward County.
Another step in this goal is to find a mentor that has been in this field for a few years and can assist me in making the transition. I understand that there is a lot of extra responsibilities that come with this position and I would like to have someone to help me.
Goal #2
After attending the CEC conference in Delray, Florida and meeting so many doctoral students I knew that was the path for me. Listening to the various speakers and even networking with the people made me understand how much depth is in the ESE field. My next goal is to enroll in a doctoral program in the area of Exceptional Student Education.
My first step is to get all the resources available to me relating to the GRE. I need to look into the scores that are needed for me to go on to get into a doctoral program that is best for me. I will register and study to take the GRE before finishing my masters degree.
My second step is to research different doctoral programs that fit best for what I would like to do with my future. I would like for the program to be in the state of Florida but I will not turn it down if it is not.
Goal #3
After receiving my bachelors and getting my first professional teaching job I was very thrilled at the lessons that I had learned from my college. I often see new teachers who sometimes struggle with finding their footing or confidence. My goal is to go back to the college I received my bachelors from and become an adjunct professor.
My first step is to go back and see if they have a mentoring program.I can start by helping students who may need help from someone who has been where they were at one point and time. I can even try to volunteer my time.
My next step is to attend a job fair that the college of education hosts. Look into the credentials needed to become an adjunct professor and connect with the people who are on the hiring team.
